We do everything we can to make our patients as comfortable as possible. Many of our patients actually enjoy their appointments because they have some quiet time to lean back on a pillow while they are wrapped in a blanket and watch a movie while we are taking care of their dental health. A little “laughing gas” doesn’t hurt either.
Nitrous Oxide “laughing gas’
Many of our patients have some degree of dental phobia. Nitrous Oxide is a great tool for helping our anxious patients relax. In our experience, it doesn’t usually make you laugh but it sure does make our patients much more at ease. We still have to rely on our corny jokes for the laughter but that is the only part of your visit you need to “dread”.
Blankets and Pillows
Some of the materials we use don’t work very well when they get warm so we have to keep it a little cool in our clinic. Most patients don’t notice but if you are one of those folks who likes to keep their thermostat well above 70 degrees, don’t be shy about asking for a blanket (or two). Our elderly patients especially appreciate some extra blankets and a pillow to keep them warm and comfy during a long appointment.
Movies
We are licensed by the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation to show movies in our clinic. We have a wide variety of movies for kids and adults that we can put on for you while you are in the dental chair. Just kick back, relax and watch a movie while we take care of your teeth.
Isolite®
Keeping your mouth open for a long dental appointment can make your jaw muscles tired and sore. That is why we offer our patients the added comfort of Isolite disposable mouthpieces. These soft, single use mouthpieces gently block your teeth from closing while suctioning saliva away from the area your dentist is working on. Virtually no effort is required on your part to stay open.
SEA-BAND® Wrist Bands
Do you tend to gag or become nauseous when you have something in your mouth? SEA-BAND® Wrist Bands may help. These acupressure bands were originally developed to help people with motion sickness by using mild pressure on your wrist to stimulate an acupressure point. We have found that many of our patients with a strong gag response tolerate a dental visit much better if they are wearing SEA-BAND® Wrist Bands. While they don’t work for everyone, they have really helped a lot of our patients over the years. If you have a problem with gagging at dentists appointments, please let us know and we will be sure to have some SEA-BAND® Wrist Bands for you when you come in.
