Night Guards

Embrace Better Sleep and Oral Well-being with Night Guards

In the pursuit of optimal oral health, certain challenges can arise during the night that affect both your teeth and overall well-being. Night guards, a specialized dental solution provided by Family Dental Group and overseen by Dr. Kalene Colwell, offer a protective barrier that can alleviate issues caused by teeth grinding and clenching. This comprehensive article explores the world of night guards, their benefits, and how Family Dental Group can help you embrace nights of peaceful sleep and healthier smiles.

Understanding Night Guards: Preserving Your Dental Health Overnight

Night guards, also known as occlusal guards or bite splints, are custom-designed appliances that are worn during sleep to protect your teeth from the negative effects of bruxism, a condition characterized by teeth grinding and clenching. These habits, often occurring unconsciously during sleep, can lead to various dental problems and discomfort.

The Role of Night Guards in Dental Health

  1. Prevention of Tooth Wear: Teeth grinding and clenching can cause significant wear on tooth enamel. Night guards act as a cushioning barrier, preventing direct contact between the upper and lower teeth and reducing the risk of enamel erosion.
  2. Alleviation of Jaw Pain and Headaches: Bruxism can lead to jaw pain, headaches, and even temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Night guards help minimize the pressure on your jaw muscles, providing relief from discomfort.
  3. Protection for Dental Work: If you have dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, or veneers, night guards help protect these investments by reducing the impact of grinding forces.
  4. Improved Sleep Quality: By preventing the noise and discomfort associated with teeth grinding, night guards contribute to better sleep quality for both you and your sleep partner.

Obtaining a Night Guard: The Process

  1. Consultation: During a consultation at Family Dental Group, Dr. Kalene Colwell will assess your oral health and discuss your concerns. If bruxism is detected or suspected, a night guard may be recommended.
  2. Customization: A mold of your teeth will be taken to create a custom night guard that fits your mouth perfectly. This ensures maximum comfort and effectiveness.
  3. Fitting: Once your night guard is ready, you’ll return to Family Dental Group for a fitting. Adjustments can be made to ensure a comfortable fit.
  4. Usage and Care: Dr. Kalene Colwell will provide instructions on how to wear and care for your night guard. Regular cleaning and proper storage are essential for its longevity.

Stunning, professional dental office that responded so quickly when an old filling fractured. They got me in right away and the process of getting that same-day crown was simply amazing. The dentist was fabulous, the assistants were incredible and the crown fit the first time it was put in. This is a happy place – the day I was there it was clear everyone was enjoying their work, enjoying the patients and enjoying each other. Incredibly positive and professional experience.!
