Dental Inlays and Onlays

Exploring the Benefits and Applications of Dental Inlays & Onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are innovative restorative solutions that combine the precision of traditional fillings with the durability of dental crowns. At Family Dental Group we recognize the importance of preserving the natural structure of your teeth while ensuring long-lasting oral health. In this article, we delve into the realm of dental inlays and onlays, exploring their benefits, applications, and how these advanced restorations contribute to your overall well-being.

Understanding Dental Inlays & Onlays: What Sets Them Apart

Dental inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations crafted from durable materials like porcelain or composite resin. They are designed to address moderate to severe tooth decay or damage that extends beyond what a standard dental filling can repair. These restorations offer an effective alternative to traditional crowns, preserving more of your natural tooth structure.

The Benefits of Dental Inlays & Onlays

  1. Preservation of Tooth Structure: Inlays and onlays require minimal alteration of your natural tooth, preserving more healthy structure compared to dental crowns.
  2. Durable and Long-Lasting: Crafted from resilient materials, inlays and onlays are designed to withstand the forces of chewing and provide lasting durability.
  3. Aesthetic Appeal: The materials used for inlays and onlays can be matched to the color of your natural teeth, ensuring a seamless and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
  4. Precision Fit: Inlays and onlays are custom-made to precisely fit the prepared cavity, promoting optimal function and comfort.

Applications of Dental Inlays & Onlays

  1. Moderate Tooth Decay: When decay affects a portion of the tooth that’s too extensive for a filling but not severe enough for a crown, inlays and onlays are an ideal solution.
  2. Fractured Teeth: Inlays and onlays are used to restore teeth that have experienced fractures or damage, providing strength and stability.

The Dental Inlays & Onlays Procedure at Family Dental Group

  1. Consultation: Your journey begins with a thorough consultation at Family Dental Group. Dr. Kalene Colwell will assess your oral health and determine if dental inlays or onlays are suitable for your needs.
  2. Treatment Plan: A personalized treatment plan will be developed, outlining the procedure and materials best suited for your restoration.
  3. Preparation and Impression: The damaged or decayed portion of your tooth will be removed, and an impression will be taken to create your custom inlay or onlay.
  4. Temporary Restoration: While your permanent restoration is being crafted, a temporary restoration will be placed to protect your tooth.
  5. Permanent Restoration: Once your custom restoration is ready, it will be precisely placed and bonded to your tooth.

Amazing Customers

Family Dental Group had been taking care of my teeth for a few years now and I tell everybody to go there. I not only feel cared for when I get my teeth cleaned but also empowered to continue caring for my own oral health. In my experience, they are honest in their recommendations and care; not always ambling for the upsell. The front desk employees are usually quite approachable.

Stunning, professional dental office that responded so quickly when an old filling fractured. They got me in right away and the process of getting that same-day crown was simply amazing. The dentist was fabulous, the assistants were incredible and the crown fit the first time it was put in. This is a happy place – the day I was there it was clear everyone was enjoying their work, enjoying the patients and enjoying each other. Incredibly positive and professional experience.!

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Macy, Dr. Dusseau (our Dentist, who was on vacation) and Timmye (Assistant). My teeth look amazing. Thank you Family Dental!
